Polk County is north of Greene County. Bolivar is the county’s largest city, is the county seat, boasts the reputation of being one of the safest towns in Missouri, and has a cost of living 21.3% lower than the national average! Among the county’s features and things to do are the Polk County Museum and Historical Society, Frisco Highline Trail, Polk County Library, Pomme de Terre State Park, Dunnegan Memorial Park and Gallery of Art, Silo Ridge Golf and Country Club, Greater Polk County Farmers Market, and the Recreation and Aquatics Center.

Polk County was named for Col. Ezekiel Polk from Tennessee, a soldier who served under General George Washington. He was the grandfather of James K. Polk, who was elected President of the United States in 1844, and was also the grandfather of John Polk Campbell and Ezekiel Madison Campbell, who helped to settle both Polk and Greene counties.
